While patients may have a difficult time accepting the diagnosis of prostate cancer, the decision regarding treatment is often the most difficult part of the process.

Treatment for cure for localized disease generally involves whether to have surgical extirpation or radiation therapy. With well-differentiated tumors, a low PSA test in advancing age, watchful waiting is in favor, and may be acceptable for those willing to undergo repeated PSA tests and examination.
