Etiology
Wilms’ tumor originates from abnormal renal histogenesis. Nephrogenic rests or nephroblastomatosis may be precursor lesions of a Wilms’ tumor. A nephrogenic rest consists of a focus of abnormally persistent nephrogenic cells, and a second factor may transform the rest into a malignancy.
